By the end of our 2nd Rotary year we achieved donations of some £30,000 and generated TRF Matching grant projects worth over $100,000
Thanks to Sightsavers international, IMPACT and others, ROI ophthalmoscopes
are now working hard to screen peoples in 44 developing countries
Donations have ranged up to 40 units so far. The average Club donation, excluding our own, is 14 units or £350. An excellent average for this humanitarian initiative to save sight, life and livelihood, as part of our make blindness history campaign.
In addition, some 125 units have been sent to Mumbai, India, as part of ROI’s first Matching Grant projects, which will also see funds provide some 500 cataract operations & other critical equipment needs met. Others will be sent to Karachi to facilitate an early screening programme: This project will also fund over 2,100 cataract operations at an average of $25 per operation. Thank you
We also thank the following charities / organisations for their help
and support with the field trials and subsequent distribution:
Sightsavers International * International Centre for Eye Health
Unite For Sight * Christian Blind Mission * IMPACT
MERCY Ships * Interserve International * Imedic Trust * Vision Aid Overseas
