Donations & donors
Q. Can my Club nominate recipients? A. Yes. They must be a registered charity, agency or organisation operating in a developing country
Q. Can my Club send or personally give Optyse™ units to our nominee? A. Yes, provided that the recipient qualifies, and you cover despatch costs
Q. Does this attract TRF/DDF Matched funding? A. Yes. When matched by gift aid & supported by DDF, a £500 personal donation could be worth £7,760 Q. Can we buy the OptyseTM from you for personal or professional use by others? A. No. The OptyseTM is made available to ROI at a discount of 45% for charitable use only
Q. How much does it cost A. Just £27.50 per donated unit, including currency / shipping / insurance costs - a saving of 45% on RRP
Q. What is engraved on the product? A. Donated by Rotarians, with the official Rotary mark or Roundel
Q. How quickly will our donation be put to work? A. Unless your Club issue Optyse™ units direct, delivery will depend on the remoteness of the recipient and when Sightsavers or other charities are in the area. SGRC will store orders to make up viable batches. … We work on an average 8 week elapse from donation to delivery.
Q. Is the Club’s donation acknowledged? A. Yes. We will issue a simple certificate (show an example). We will also add your donation to the donation listing, published on our web site, once the Grange has been advised by Sightsavers who is due to receive units and where they are being sent to.
Distribution
Q. Do your distribution arrangements cover the globe? A. Broadly yes. If our primary distributor i.e. Sight Savers International, does not cover a particular country, they, or we will arrange for another eye-care charity to place the units
Financials
Q. Does the Stevenage Grange Rotary Club (SGRC) financially benefit from the Initiative? A. No
Q. Does SGRC or any Active Member associated with ROI have any financial interest in Ophthalmos Ltd.? A. No.
Q. There are clearly expenses involved in running ROI. Who pays for these? A. Costs are kept low. SGRC put up initial funding to kick start the Initiative and we look for sponsors to cover printing and other costs. For example the leaflet & web costs are funded by a hotel chain. So far we have been fortunate in having many people donate time and expertise. We do, however, need more sponsors
Use of our donation
Q. How can we be sure that our donation is used effectively? A. No units are shipped until the bona-fide distributor and beneficiary agrees to certain conditions. Q. The focus of ROI appears to be on diagnosis. But if this cannot be followed up with treatment, isn’t the effort pointless? A. The donation programme frees up charitable funds that otherwise would be spent on training / purchase of more expensive & complex equipment. ROI should therefore enable more operations to be performed. In addition where linked to an RI TRF Matching grant project, funds are directly channeled into eye-care treatments.
Q. Who will use the Optyse™? A. OptyseTM Ophthalmoscopes will be distributed to trained mid level eye-care workers, nurses & medical assistants, teachers and community volunteers who live or work in remote locations. Smaller quantities will be distributed to higher level Eye Care Workers, such as Cataract Surgeons and Ophthalmologists, and a few maybe used for training purposes.
